SUMMARY:Old Fashioned Christmas Chapel Service 2025
DESCRIPTION:Each December\, the Franklin Historical Society invites the community to gather and celebrate the spirit of the season with its annual nondenominational Christmas Chapel Services. This cherished tradition will be held in the beautifully restored St. Peters Chapel on Saturday\, December 6\, with two evening services offered at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. with snacks and refreshments served in the Town Hall until 7:00 p.m. All the historical buildings will also be open for touring (weather permitting).  (There will nothing open until 8 p.m.) \nNestled in the heart of Legend Park\, St. Peter’s Chapel provides the perfect setting for this holiday event. With its historic architecture and intimate atmosphere\, the chapel comes alive with candlelight\, music\, and reflection\, offering guests a meaningful way to pause and celebrate the joy of Christmas. The services are open to people of all faiths and backgrounds\, emphasizing the values of community\, peace\, and goodwill. \nBefore\, during\, and after each service\, guests are invited to gather in the nearby Town Hall\, where refreshments will be served. A small private lake lies to the west of the cemetery. \nOne of the oldest monuments standing in the front of St. Peters Cemetery was dedicated to seven members of the William Boldt family. The cemetery was established in the 1870s and St. Peters Chapel\, which accompanied it\, was moved to Legend Park in 1983. \n

SUMMARY:Civil War In Song
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday April 11\, 2015 the Franklin Historical Society as part of our annual membership meeting\, will present our renowned “Civil War In Song” program. The membership meeting will start at 12:30 PM in the Fadrow room of the Franklin Public Library\, 9151 W. Loomis Rd. The Civil War In Song program will start at 2 PM. \nThe program is free to the general public. Our guests are welcome to stay after the program for cookies\, snacks\, coffee and juice\, to meet the performers\, and to learn more about the Franklin Historical Society. \nThrough the use of music of the period\, the “Civil War In Song” program depicts the shifting attitude of the country from the early expectation of quick victory\, through the long years of warfare\, to the end of the war and the saving of the Union when Johnny came marching home. \nThis program was written and created by the FHS members and is presented in commemoration of the sesquicentennial\, 1861-1865.
